Self-doubt can be a hidden roadblock in your career path. It’s often a quiet voice that makes you question if you’re good enough.

So, just how can it affect your career progression?

Well, think of yourself as a ship sailing the vast ocean. You’re bound to hit some choppy waters, whether it’s from a tough boss, a friend who doesn’t get it, or that tiny voice in your head that keeps doubting you.

But here’s the most important thing: only you get to decide how these waves will affect your journey.

Will they sink you or just cause a bit of a wobble? It’s totally up to you.

Experiencing significant changes at work, such as taking a new job, stepping into a leadership role, or making a complete career change, can be challenging. This difficulty is often compounded by feelings of self-doubt and the emergence of what is known as Imposter Syndrome.

If you have read my posts or watched my videos over any length of time, you’ll see that I often talk about the way in which most of us are held back in some way by limiting beliefs that were taken on-board in our early childhood.

Remember that nagging feeling you get, like you’re just playing a part and soon everyone will see through your act? Or that stubborn thought that you’re just not as good as people think you are? These ‘fraud’ feelings and self-doubts can really put a damper on your life, affecting everything from your mood to your work.

Astonishingly, it’s estimated that around 70% of people will experience these impostor feelings at some point in their lives. it’s a feeling that pervades, often quietly undermining self-esteem and confidence and can affect both men and women, from various walks of life.

It’s that nagging voice in your head, the one that says you’re not good enough, that you don’t belong, that your achievements are merely the result of luck or being in the right place at the right time.
