6 tips on dealing with rejection for people in sales

Most of those have trouble dealing with rejection because it can be really painful at times and it can give your self-confidence a big hit. People involved in sales, unfortunately, have to deal with it regularly, possibly even on a daily basis. And yet they still have to front up again and again with their self-confidence intact.

It’s a simple fact of life that dealing with rejection is an integral part of the sales game. Whether you’re selling a product or a service, you’re bound to come across some potential customers who just aren’t interested. But just because someone says “no” you can’t allow yourself to simply give up. Here are a few tips to help you deal with rejection and keep pushing forward in your sales career.

  • Reframe the ‘No’ and don’t take it personally. It’s important to remember that rejection isn’t a reflection of your personal worth. The customer may have a number of reasons for saying “no” that have nothing to do with you or your product, so find new and creative ways of reframing the rejection into something positive.
  • Learn from the experience. When you get rejected, take the time to reflect on what went wrong. Was there something you could have said or done differently? Use this as an opportunity to improve your sales pitch for next time.
  • Keep a positive attitude. Rejection can be frustrating and disheartening, but it’s important to stay positive. Remind yourself of all the times you’ve closed a sale and the successes you’ve had in the past.
  • Don’t give up too easily. Just because one person says “no” doesn’t mean everyone will. Keep pushing forward and don’t let rejection discourage you from reaching out to other potential customers.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for feedback. When you get rejected, ask the customer why they decided not to go through with the sale. This will give you valuable insight into what you can do differently in the future.
  • Stay organized and Keep track of your progress. Keep a log of your progress and the people you have reached out to. This will help you keep track of your progress and see which approach works best for you.

Remember, rejection is a normal part of the sales process and so it’s important to keep a positive attitude and not take it personally. Learn from the experience, stay organized and keep pushing forward.

Of course, staying positive can be made even more difficult if you have unconscious programming working against you. This is something that I specialise on helping people with and so if this is of interest to you, let’s have a chat.
