Anxiety’s like a rocking chair

Anxiety's like a rocking chair

Anxiety is a normal emotion that can help us react quickly in risky situations. But when it lingers too long or becomes overwhelming, it can hold us back from living our best lives. It’s like a rocking chair—we feel like we’re doing something, but we’re not really making any progress. This can be super frustrating when we’re trying to grow in our careers, relationships, or personal lives.

To move past anxiety and start making progress, we need to break away from that metaphorical rocking chair. First, admit that anxiety is part of your life. It’s a natural emotion, but you don’t have to let it control you. Next, figure out what situations or events tend to set off your anxiety. Knowing your triggers can help you better manage or even avoid them.

Practicing mindfulness techniques, like meditation or deep breathing, can help you focus on the present moment and calm anxiety. Make it a regular practice, and you’ll be better prepared to handle stress. Replace unhelpful habits, like constant worrying, with healthier alternatives. Try engaging in physical activity, spending time in nature, or practicing relaxation techniques.

Chat with friends, family, or a therapist about your anxiety. Sometimes just venting your concerns can make them feel less overwhelming. Finally, break your goals into smaller, manageable steps. This can help you feel more in control and less stressed, which in turn can reduce your anxiety levels.

Anxiety, like a rocking chair, can keep us occupied without actually helping us achieve anything. By understanding and acknowledging our anxiety, identifying triggers, practicing mindfulness, developing healthy coping mechanisms, seeking support, and setting realistic goals, we can break away from the rocking chair and start making real progress. Remember, it’s never too late to take control of your anxiety and start living a happier and more fulfilling life.

If anxiety is a problem for you, it might find that is being fuelled by unconscious beliefs which you are unaware of. Helping people with problems like that is something that I specialise in so, if you would like some help with this problem, maybe we should chat.
