Workplace environments favourable to people with lower self-esteem

Workplace environments favourable to people with lower self-esteem

Having a boss who believes in you and your capabilities can make all the difference when it comes to building your confidence and self-esteem at work. Here are a few things to look for in a supportive and understanding work environment:

  • Regular appreciation and validation from your boss and colleagues. Feeling like you matter and that your work is valued can make a big difference for those with low self-esteem.
  • A boss who sets high standards for excellence but understands that perfection is not always possible. This shows that they believe in your abilities and want to see you grow and succeed.
  • Management that recognizes and values different communication styles. If you’re someone who prefers to work quietly, that doesn’t mean your work is any less important or valuable. A good employer will understand this and make sure to include you in important conversations and projects.
  • A boss who plays to your strengths and helps you succeed in areas where you may feel shy or uncomfortable. For example, if public speaking is a challenge for you, a sympathetic boss will understand and work with you to prepare and practice for important presentations.
