Why Do My Financial Worries Hurt So Much?

Why Do My Financial Worries Hurt So Much?

Have you ever wondered why stressing over money feels so painful? Well, you’re not alone. It turns out there’s a pretty good explanation for why it feels this way, and it’s got a lot to do with how we’re wired as humans.

Back in the day, when we were all cave dwellers, running out of food was our biggest worry. It was literally a matter of life and death.

These days, money is our ‘food’. We need it to buy the basics like shelter, food, clothes, and to pay for things like medicine when we get sick.

So, when we’re short on cash or worried about losing our job, it triggers the same type of fear that our ancient ancestors had about going hungry. This fear can make us feel really crummy, even physically sick.

On top of that, how we feel about ourselves often comes from what we have in the bank. Social pressures can sometimes make us feel like we’re better or worse people based on our financial situation, which can lead to feeling like a failure if we’re really worried about our finances. This can hit us hard, almost feel like an actual punch in the gut.

If that wasn’t enough, feeling stressed about money all the time can cause actual health problems. Constant worry keeps our bodies in a state of ‘high alert’. Over time, this can lead to things like high blood pressure, heart problems, and trouble sleeping. So, those money worries can really take a toll on our health.

But there are some things that you can do about it. Knowing why we feel this way about money is the first step to feeling better. Then, things like learning how to budget, getting advice on managing money, or talking to someone about our stress can really help. It’s all about finding the right tools and support to deal with money worries.

If you are finding that your financial woes are really getting you down, we should chat, because, while I can’t solve your financial problems, I can probably help you let go of some of the unnecessary pain so that you can deal with them from a position of strength and power.
