Overcoming Self-Doubt Cheat-Sheet

Many professionals, business owners and entrepreneurs suffer from self-doubt at some point in their careers. This can cause problems because of the way it limits their progress in their work and their private lives.

 

While many aspects of self-doubt arise at an unconscious level and are therefore difficult to resolve working alone – they are better dealt with working one-on-one with a therapeutic coach – some aspects can be improved by working on a conscious level. The following cheat-sheet is designed to help in that regard.

 Identify Your Doubts

  1. Write It Down: Put your come self-doubt into words. What are you unsure about?
  2. Label the Emotion: Anguish, fear, worry? Identifying the emotion helps you face it.

Challenge Negative Thoughts

  1. Question Validity: Ask yourself, “Is this doubt based on facts or assumptions?”
  2. Reality Check: Consult a trusted friend. Sometimes a second opinion helps see things clearly.
  3. Flip the Script: Rewrite the negative thought into a positive or neutral statement.

Seek Inspiration

  1. Talk to Role Models: Sometimes just knowing someone else has overcome similar doubts can be empowering.
  2. Watch Uplifting Content: Motivational videos can provide a much-needed morale boost.

Set Realistic Goals

  1. Break It Down: Large tasks can seem overwhelming. Break them into smaller, manageable tasks.
  2. SMART Goals: Make your goals Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

Take Action

  1. One Small Step: Do one thing that moves you closer to your goal. Action fuels confidence.
  2. Celebrate Wins: No matter how small, celebrate your accomplishments to build self-assurance.

Get Support

  1. Professional Help: Sometimes self-doubt is too big to handle alone. Don’t hesitate to seek professional guidance.
  2. Accountability Partner: Having someone to check in with can keep you on track.

Self-Care

  1. Exercise: Physical activity releases endorphins, improving your mood.
  2. Mindfulness: Techniques like meditation can help you become aware of negative thought patterns.

Reflect and Adjust

  1. Keep a Journal: Document your journey to track progress and adjust your strategies.
  2. Be Kind to Yourself: Remember, everyone experiences self-doubt. You’re not alone.
